CHAINFALLPlay

How to play

Chainfall is a free falling-blocks puzzle game where nothing hangs in the air. Clear a line and every loose block above it drops, which can complete more lines on its own. Play it here in your browser, or on iPhone and Android, with one shared leaderboard.

The basics

Pieces made of four blocks fall onto a board 9 blocks wide and 18 tall. Move and rotate each piece as it falls. When a row is completely filled, it clears and you score. The game ends when there's no room for the next piece.

A glowing mark under the falling piece shows where it will land. You can also put one piece on hold and swap it back in later.

Cascades and chains

This is what makes Chainfall different. After a clear, any block that is no longer connected to the floor falls straight down until it lands. If those falling blocks fill another row, it clears too, and that counts as a chain.

Every step of a chain multiplies its points: the second clear in a chain is worth double, the third triple, and so on. Planning for chains is the fastest way to a big score.

Scoring

  • Line clears: 100 points for one line, 300 for two, 500 for three and 800 for four at once, multiplied by your level.
  • Back-to-back: two four-line clears in a row earn 50% more.
  • Combos: clearing lines with several pieces in a row adds a growing bonus.
  • Perfect clear: empty the whole board for a bonus of 2,000 points times your level.
  • Drops: a soft drop earns 1 point per row and a hard drop 2 points per row.
  • Levels: every 10 lines you go up a level, and pieces fall faster.

Powers

  • Bomb: earned every 5,000 points (you can change this in Settings), up to 3 at a time. It blasts the messiest rows, the ones with gaps buried under blocks. Then everything above them falls.
  • Laser: earned for a ×2 chain. It clears the tallest column, and the blocks beside it fall in.
  • Paint: earned for a ×3 chain or a four-line clear. It removes every block of the most common color on the board.
  • Overdrive: its meter fills as you clear lines and chains. When it's full, switch it on for 8 seconds: pieces fall 2.5 times slower and line clears score double.

You can hold up to 2 lasers and 2 paints. Powers are only earned by playing; they can never be bought.

Game modes

  • Daily: everyone gets the same pieces each day for 2 minutes, and only your first try counts. A new challenge starts at midnight Toronto time. Play every day to build a streak.
  • Endless: survive as long as you can as the speed climbs.
  • Dash: clear 40 lines as fast as you can. Your time is your score.
  • Rush: score as much as you can in 2 minutes.
  • Chill: no game over and no clock. If the board fills up, it clears and you keep playing.

Controls

  • Keyboard: arrow keys move, up arrow or X rotates, Z rotates the other way, down arrow drops faster, Space drops instantly and C holds. 1, 2, 3 and O use a bomb, laser, paint and Overdrive.
  • Touch: drag to move, tap to rotate, flick down to drop and flick up to hold. In the apps you can switch to on-screen buttons in Settings.

Leaderboards, seasons and achievements

Add a name when you save a score to appear on the leaderboards. Each mode has all-time, weekly and daily boards. When a week ends (weeks start on Monday), the top 3 players in each mode earn a podium on their profile.

Chainfall runs in seasons. Season 1 started in October 2026 with the current 9 × 18 board; scores from the earlier beta are kept on profiles but not ranked. There are 21 achievements to earn, from your first game to a ×5 chain.

To keep the boards fair, every game is checked on our server, and a run continued with a second chance is saved but not ranked. Your profile has a private link code, which lets you play under the same name on another phone or computer.

Free to play

Chainfall is free. The free version shows an occasional ad between games, never during play. If you run out of room, you can choose to watch an ad for a second chance. Read how we handle your data in our privacy policy.
